Game Play

The game play is pretty simple. You begin the game with a map view (where you will place your totems), and you will only have access to one tribe (as the game progresses, you will be able to unlock 3 more tribes, a total of 4 tribes available). All you have to do is just build a totem pole, using the totem blocks provided by a swinging crane. Sounds simple enough? Now the tough part. There is only a small area at the bottom for you to drop your totem blocks, so you have to build your totem pole as straight as possible. You will have to build a 12 blocks totem pole every game.

Releasing your totem block at the wrong time will cause the block to fall off, in which, if you cause the blocks to fall off 3 times, you will need to restart the game. Even if the block does not fall off, it might cause the pole to sway, which would lead to all the blocks go tumbling down. 

If you are able to release your totem block and it lands exactly centered on the previous totem block, then you will earn bonus points. There is a bonus counter at the lower right corner. Get 5 combos and you will get a special totem block for your totem pole. 

The key to getting more tribe points is placing your Totem Poles strategically. Note that ONLY yellow/blue poles can be placed anywhere. Red poles need to be beside yellow/blue ones, green poles need to be beside red ones and white poles need to be beside green poles.

Also, you will be able to unlock medallions as you progress along in the game. To check your medallions, simply click on 'Stats' at the menu option. Here's a guide on how to unlock all 10 medallions.

1. Unlock the 1st medal by playing 4 games using tribe 1.
   
2. Unlock the 2nd medal by reaching 250 tribe points.
   
3. Unlock the 3rd medal by reaching 1000 tribe points.
   
4. Unlock the 4th medal by reaching 2200 tribe points.
   
5. Unlock the 5th medal by reaching 3000 tribe points.
   
6. Unlock the 6th medal by reaching 5000 tribe points.
   
7. Unlock the 7th medal by reaching the 1000th stack mark.
   
8. Unlock the 8th medal by getting a 12x consecutive combo.
   
9. Unlock the 9th medal by playing 50 games. 
10. Unlock the last medal by filling the entire board with totem poles. 

Performance

The graphics in this game are nicely done. Each tribe has a unique background and totem pole features. Accompanying the smooth animations are the great sound effects and background music. 

 
Overall

Overall, eSoft Interactive's Totem is a fun puzzle game that is difficult to put down. The levels might seem repetitive, but as you progress along the game, the game becomes more challenging. One nice little update I would see would be a storyline, which would make this game even more interesting! Still, with great graphics and smooth animations, I would really recommend this addicting puzzle game to everyone who's looking for a quick game to fill in between your free time.
